The Everest Base Camp trail offers a range of accommodation options, from friendly teahouses to luxurious lodges. There are options to suit all budgets for EBC Trek, from cheap to high-end.
As the trekking industry has grown, accommodation services have also improved. In addition to teahouses, there are now high-quality lodges available on the EBC trail. These lodges, although not exactly hotels in the urban sense, resemble lodges in terms of their facilities. They offer comfortable beds with electric blankets, hot water showers, and free WiFi services.
Teahouse is the classic form of trekking accommodation in the Everest Base Camp and other popular trekking region like Annapurna, Langtang and Manaslu. Most of the teahouses along the way are built and managed by local villagers.
These teahouses provide basic facilities for trekkers to rest and also offer a chance to contribute to the local community’s economy.
The quality of teahouse in Nepal varies enormously. Normally, the accommodation service is more basic but still comfortable. Most teahouses offer a simple wooden bed with a mattress or foam pad, a pillow, and a blanket. Almost every teahouse in the Everest region has solar or electric heated showers, but on less trekked trails, they may offer a bucket of lukewarm water heated on a wood fire for bathing.
On established trekking routes, western-style toilet facilities are available, and some teahouses even have attached bathrooms with 24-hour hot shower service.
However, off the established trekking routes, such as at higher elevations, teahouses may only have squat toilets, and you may need to bathe under outdoor taps or even in a tin bucket with freezing cold water.
Teahouses are a perfect accommodation choice for resting and relaxing while spending time hiking around the Everest Base Camp area. They are also great places to meet fellow trekkers looking for an adventure in Nepal.
From the Gokyo lake, you must visit the Gokyo Ri, at an altitude of 5357m, from where you can enjoy the panoramic view of Mount Everest. Besides Everest, you will also enjoy the view of other sibling mountains.
The Gokyo lake Trek is one of the moderately difficult treks. For this trek, you must be physically in good shape and stamina as it requires very long walking, and facing obstacles in the journey.
The Gokyo Trek is estimated to be around 16 days. Within 16 days, you can climb to 5,400m of height. One of the challenging treks, the Gokyo Ri Trek starts from the Lukla airport and stops there after the trek.
If you take a flight, you have to take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla followed by a trekking trail to EBC. if you are taking the bus, the journey is from Kathmandu to Jiri by Bus and then the trek, which is an extra three days.
The hike to Gokyo Lake is worth the extra days and effort if you are a travel enthusiast loving to spend more. The trek offers a view of Mt. Everest from a close distance, lakes, and other cultural importance.
